Free Meet the
Doctor and Office Tour Times:
One night each month we will open our doors after hours so that you
and your child can come see the office in a relaxing environment at
convenient hours. You will be encouraged to tour the office and
speak with Dr. Gonzales and/or her staff.
Oral Health Report Cards:
At our office, we are committed to educating our patients and
parents about good oral hygiene. For our new patient exams and
recall appointments, our oral health report cards will indicate your
child’s current height, weight and teeth present. Watch out for our
red marks - which might indicate areas of improvement for brushing
or cavity bugs that might be present!!
Infant Exams:
Dr. Gonzales routinely sees children as young as one year of age
(though she has seen some even younger). This is an important time
to discuss breast or bottle-feeding habits, evaluate dental
development and demonstrate good hygiene techniques – which can be
tricky with the little ones! She likes to make sure everything is on
target for a healthy mouth.
What in the World is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a vitamin for the teeth! Did you know that when we use
our special paste to clean the teeth, the rich layer of fluoride
(used to prevent cavities) can be scraped away? That is why it is
important to complete each cleaning with our “tooth polish” step. We
will take a tiny paintbrush and apply a clear layer of fluoride
varnish to each tooth in order to replace that protective layer that
is often lost during a cleaning. Yum, yum – it definitely tastes
good!
Sealants - for those with Hippie Teeth!!
For children with hippie teeth – the “groovy teeth” as we sometimes
call them - there is a solution! Sealants (or celladores in Spanish)
are a white, plastic-like material that can be painted on the top of
teeth to prevent bugs from living there. Sealants are usually placed
on the big “chompers” at the back where they flow into all the
little grooves. Dr. Gonzales uses a special light or “tooth dryer”
to make them hard like plastic and voila! Sealants are a great way
to prevent cavities and make the teeth look great.
Sedation Dentistry:
Wouldn’t it be great if you could just sleep through your
appointment? Dr. Gonzales does offer nitrous and conscious sedation
for those that might be just a little excited for their visit.
Nitrous, or laughing gas, can be delivered through the Snoopy nose –
and it really gets you laughing.
For conscious sedation appointments, Dr.
Gonzales can give a little bit of medicine at the beginning of the
appointment which makes kids pretty sleepy and helps them to stay
very still while she does her magic. These appointments are limited
to only those children that need a little more help staying
comfortable.
Hospital Dentistry:
If your child is very young, unable to tolerate treatment in the
office or has special treatment needs, Dr. Gonzales has privileges
at area hospitals in order to perform the treatment safely in one
visit.
